Optimization of Storage Virtualization – Part 1

To download a pdf of the slides for this presentation, see www.nytechsummit.com/courses. Part 1 of a seminar given by Michael Kestigian of Ingram Micro at the 2010 NY Tech Summit. Storage virtualization has been practiced in large scale data centers for nearly 20 years. With advances in storage media, software engineering, and service level delivery models, storage has taken on operational and management functions once found only in software applications. Maximizing any investment in storage means optimizing the use of these platforms to enhance information availability, data movement, and security. This seminar shares best practices in improving the return on storage virtualization investments.

Introduction to Server Virtualization Part 1 of 3

Gartner estimates that by next year 50% of all server based computing will be virtualized. Are you ready for the coming change? CentriNet invites you to learn how server virtualization can transform your data center at the second of our 7-webinar series, The Building Blocks of Virtualization.

Join CentriNet Technical Accounts Manager, John Braden, as we discuss how server virtualization can:

* Consolidate servers and reduce power, cooling and data center space needs
* Provision new servers and IT services in minutes
* Ensure application requirements and performance levels are always met
* Eliminate planned downtime, minimize the impact of failures and protect against disasters

Can a Wireless Network Storage Device have a Dongle connected to it?

Is it possible to mount a Network Storage Device set alone in splendid isolation WITH a wireless Dongle attached but WITHOUT the encumbarence of a PC attached to it?

I know of devices such as Netgears "Storage Central" unit which HAVE to be cable-connected to a router PC to work and THEN store data from other (wirelessly) connected PC’s.

The Storage Device would then simply be shown as another drive on any PC’s displays of the network. All that would be attached to the Storage Display unit would be the mains supply, and the Dongle.

What attracts me to the idea of a remote Storage Device, wirelessly connected, is that no-one (Such as children) can get their hands on it- or is this a pie in the sky, idea best left with the birds!

(wireless) router and a network storage device. you could then connect the hard drive to one of the device slots on the router, and have a huge cable to the hard drive or have it near the wirless router and have you PC connected wirlessly. i dont know of any other way.

Can data deleted through router settings be recovered?

I was setting up my network storage through the router settings in my firefox browser. I accidentally deleted a folder with allot of vital documents and need to recover them. I spoke with linksys through online chat and they told me that there is no way to recover it since it was deleted through the router settings. I also tried to use a hard drive recovery tool, but the files didn’t show up. Anyone got ideas?

That’s horrible to hear. I know the feeling, that’s happened to me quite a few times. In all honesty, I don’t think there’s a way to recover that kind of data. It’s most likely all gone. Sorry for the bad news. I would just get backup software to prevent that from happening again.

How hot is too hot for this computer?

My power supply is 720 watts. I used to have a 540 watt power supply and my pc over heated so I got a new one
