Does Intel hardware virtualization technology affect gaming performance?

I have an HP Dv6500t CTO and in the BIOS, it says that virtualization technology should not be enabled unless I have an application which is using it. I am using Windows 7 RC 1 and I want to try out the Windows XP virtualization, but I am worried that enabling hardware virtualization will impact the performance, even though I don’t see any reason why it will. To summarize my long statement, I am wondering whether hardware virtualization will affect performance for things like gaming and why it would. Thanks in advance.
Sorry for being unclear, but I meant hardware-assisted virtualization found here: http://www.intel.com/technology/virtualization/ and I meant the XP mode as in http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10229125-56.html and I was wondering if it would impact gaming because I did not think games used virtualization, but I thought that it might help because I though Windows uses virtualization for things like the registry.

Of course it will. Virtual hardware can not emulate real hardware well. Like Daemon Tools software. It emulates DVD drive very well in comparison to Winmount.

Since you have Windows 7, i don’t think that you should go back to XP virtualization. I hope you already know about 7, it is equipped with DirectX 11.

Think twice before going back.

Enabling Hardware virtualization on the Inspiron 530? HELP! :)?

Hey people!

I have a problem with VMware on my PC. It gives me an error something like this.
"Max OS X is not supported with software virtualization. To run Mac OS X you need a host on which VMware workstation supports hardware virtualization."

I’ve read on some forums that you have to go into your BIOS and find something like "Hardware virtualization" and enable that. I can’t find it. I’ve also read that all Dell PC’s have it…but they come shipped disabled for a very odd reason. Can somebody tell me where in the BIOS is "hardware virtualization?"

Any help would be HIGHLY appreciated. :-)

Specs:
PC – Dell inspiron 530
Processor – Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
OS – Microsoft Windows 7
BIOS version – 1.0.16
Processor L2 Cache – 4096KB
RAM/Memory – 4096MB (around 4 GB)
RAM/Memory speed – 800 MHz

Thanks guys! I really NEED some help. I really don’t want to flash my BIOS, but if I have to, I guess I will.

Thanks! I really appreaciate it guys! :-)

Have a good day
Tyler

Peace!

Nothing you can do about it – you would have to upgrade the processor in your system to get that.

The Basics – Windows 7 Virtual XP Mode

http://twitter.com/quesoman – Hello Everyone, This is my first ever Windows 7 tutorial! This tutorial is specifically about the new feature that everyone has been raving about! The Virtual XP mode add-on. This downloadable feature is available from Microsoft and, for free, it runs Windows XP in a virtual machine and also allows to run programs in a compatibility environment using the XP framework. Users no longer have to worry about incompatible programs. Unfortunately this feature will only be available for the Buisness, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions. To download the Windows 7 Release Candidate download it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx

You can then download the two programs necessary for running Virtual XP here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
