hey peeps………am usin sygate personal firewall……from past 2 days it has been notifying me about a constant port scan attack(3 to 5 in a day) from a ip 204.16.208.135…..i did a trace back n found the org as FAST COLOCATION SERVICES …….and server name server being SANDY.THEHIDEOUT.NET……..wats this all about…….am i at risk….kindly advice…..thanks
The best thing to do now is make sure your firewall is updated as well as your windows are patched with the latest security patches.
Disconnect your affected PC from the network to prevent it from spreading the attack elesewhere.
Run your antivirus, antispyware to make sure no trojan is been installed that might act as a backdoor to network attack.

I’m trying to find an unmetered colocation for my server. I’ve seen a few people offering 1Mbps "per month".
How can someone offer per second per month?
Can anyone explain to me what it is? A 1MB unmetered connection?

I dont know for sure but it looks like your connection speed is 1 megabyte per second and you have unlimited downloading capacity.

Currently for my existing dedicated server I pay $110 a month to the company that I’m renting it from and they provide 250 gigs of bandwidth per month. I want to see if it’s possible to get my monthly costs to be cheaper than that.

I want to make a server for my CS:S clan, I was wondering if a tower server or a 1U server would be best for a 12 person CS:S server with some mods like mani admin? Also, what are my options for getting bandwidth for my server? Is colocation cheapest or is there something better?
Or is it just cheaper to rent from a provider like nuclearfallout.net?
I am not looking for whats easiest, but whats cheapest and most effective.
If your making a home server there are some things you must look at.
1. Does your computer have enough ram? becuase ram is what its all about when running a server.
2. bandwith – do you have enough?
3.cpu speed – its alwasy better to be faster.
bandwith and ram is the main concern when running a server. If you have cable you can run about 7-8 people on that server. dsl can only run about 4-5, if that. What you need is a connection with both high download rates and high upload rates, most providers have super fast download with uber slow upload rates, check with you cable company to see if you can change to a service with a higher upload rate. You will need good ram with decent timing’s, the more ram you have, the better the server will run.
My personal opinion, its easier to rent a server.

I am looking for a dedicated 10Mbps connection for a server I have (or will have). Does anyone have any recommendations for places I should check out? I saw calpop.com, anyone know anything about them?
There are many many of these available. The Planet, Rackspace, ColoMart, Nexicom, iland, etc. All depends on where you live and where you want to locate your server.
I would say run a search for "10 meg colocation" or just colocation and see what is available in your area.
Co Located means you have to manage the server and be able to service it etc. You can also usually just lease a server at these offices and they will then keep the hardware running, you still have to manage the system and os etc.
In many cases the "10 M" connection will still have some amount of monthly transfer limitations so shop carefully to meet your exact needs. The price will all depend on monthly data transfers in most cases and not the connected speed.
